OmniFocus Importer for Bee Docs Timeline

Monday, June 29, 2009

As many of you know, we recently added built-in support for Things and The Hit List in response to customer requests. Well, we heard loud and clear from the OmniFocus fans who wanted support for their task manager of choice too!

We just published version 2.7.1 of Bee Docs Timeline which can automatically create timelines based on your tasks stored in OmniFocus that have due dates. We are proud to offer automatic timeline charting that integrates with three of the world class task managers on Mac OS X.

Thank you very much to the folks at OmniGroup who helped us with the OmniFocus integration. They even updated some of their custom images for us so that we could offer you a pixel perfect experience!

Okay, so I am totally new to Timeline and hope I'm not making an idiot out of myself :) But how does this work?

I create a new document, select OmniFocus as the source, and it will show me just one project with one task to select from. I have plenty of tasks, some of them done, some of them still upcoming (with Due Date set). However, I can't find out how to include them.

And one very minor bit of website feedback. For a newcomer, it would be nice to have a single screencast that explains what the app is about. I clicked on 'Movies' looking for just that and only found explanations of advanced features :)

Second bit of feedback: It's confusing that the "Settings" button to the right has the same name as the cmd+, menu item.

jlnr,

Thanks for your comment. Please send us an e-mail at info@beedocs.com so that we can walk you through the OmniFocus import process.

I totally agree that we need an overview / intro movie. Until we are able to produce one, please check out this video presentation which I recorded live at Apple headquarters and provides a nice introduction.

Hi,

Just wanted to say that this is a really cool feature and one of the reasons that I brought Timeline 3D. I am a project manager so I have to walk through timelines with my clients and project teams and using Timeline 3D has simplified my communication of this information. I can now pull the actions from Omnifocus for my projects, delete the actions that I do not want to show the client and that is it, job done. I then include it within my keynote presentations and weekly status reports.

theanalysts,

Thank you so much for your kind words and the insight into how you are using our software. I'm glad that you are part of our little "Bee Docs" community!
