The Passion Timeline - BBC

Thursday, April 03, 2008

David Huyng, developer of the SIMILE open-source timeline project, sent me a link to this highly customized SIMILE timeline that the BBC created for Easter week. The BBC seems to have some of the best examples of interactive timelines on the web these days.

Passion Timeline

Check it out and let me know what you think of it.

any plans for Bee Docs to support exporting to SIMILE format for interactive website applications?

Anonymous,

I'm trying to learn how customers would like to use and interact with their timelines on the web and avoiding jumping to conclusions based on my own opinions. Then, we will design and build the feature.

It may or may not be based on SIMILE. However, the developer of SIMILE has been very generous and open to it's use in commercial products.

Do you use SIMILE now? Why or why not?

Just use timelines in PPT and Keynote type documents. I like the interactivity aspect of SIMILE for websites but currently have not posted any websites. Seems like it could be a much richer experience then just a plain graphic.

For me it would be a nice to have but not a requirement based on my current activities.

I'm also interested in Bee Docs Timeline supporting SIMILE Timeline. But I have to say that their implementation for user customization is a bit rough IMHO. Still seeing your take on how to integrate would be helpful.
